MAIN COMPLAINT
Dissatisfaction with the shade of the teeth
INITIAL EVALUATION
During the anamnesis, the patient reported great dissatisfaction with the shade of her teeth, especially after removing the orthodontic appliance. She explained that, despite wanting to whiten her teeth, she had never done it, for fear of feeling sensitive. After an intraoral clinical examination, the patient underwent an adjustment of the oral environment to ensure oral health before whitening, where no decayed, fractured, or periodontitis-related teeth were observed. In the intraoral examination using the Vita shade guide, shade A2 was observed in the middle thirds of the incisors and A3 for canines. The patient’s age and possible tooth sensitivity were considered, and whitening with Whiteness Perfect 22% was proposed to use a take-home gel for the patient’s greater convenience, carried out at home under the dentist’s supervision.
TREATMENT PERFORMED
To begin the proposed treatment, prophylaxis was followed by the photographic protocol, highlighting the shades A2 for incisors and A3 for canines. The procedure began with molding the upper and lower arches with good-quality alginate. Then, the plaster was poured with the Whiteness tray plates for later production of the silicone tray. After being made and cleaned, the patient received the trays to try in the mouth to check whether they were well adapted or had any soft tissue compression. To start the whitening, the patient was instructed to use the take-home whitening gel daily, for about 1 hour since it has a concentration of 22% carbamide peroxide, which is enough time for the daily whitening action. Furthermore, Whiteness Perfect has a desensitizing composition, in addition to a pH close to neutral. After 35 days of treatment, the patient returned to evaluate the final shade, where shade B1 was evident for incisors and A1 for canines. As a result, it can be concluded that the treatment was extremely effective, with zero sensitivity and complete patient satisfaction.
